jist of it--

I’m putting the cart in water at 170 F and leaving it while the water heats up to 195, then turn off the burner and let it sit until the temp drops back to 170 F

Then you remove and work one corner up, an xacto blade works if you're careful. And then pull the label off slowly with your fingers. Do not force it!

The front half of the cart with the label is placed in a small ziploc bag, which is then put in a larger ziploc bag for double protection from water getting in. ziploc bags have a melting temp of around 212F, so staying under 190-195F should prevent the bag from melting/breaking

Bring the water temp up on a stove burner. Using a thermometer to monitor the temp. At around 170F I place the bag into the water. Use whatever method you can to keep the shell under the water (wooden spoon, chopstick, weight in bag, magnets). When the temp reaches 190-195F, turn off the stove heat and let the shell sit in the heat of the water while it slowly cools.

When it gets back to 170F, pull the bag out and remove the shell. Working on one corner of the label, it should peel off without too much fight. I use an xacto to get the corner up and then tug with my fingers to remove the rest of the label.

Then I'll place the label on parchment paper and wedge it between flat, heavy objects (cutting boards or books) for a day or two to resist the curling of the label from the removal process.

The donor cart I'll remove its label by soaking it in IPA for a few hours. (or don’t do this, IPA will make plastic brittle and prone to cracking) The label will come off quickly, but the IPA will cause some bleeding of the label colors. Dry off the cart, and you're ready to apply the label you want. If the label is still curling. I found cutting a business cart to the size of the label, helps a heavy object press the label into label recess area.
